Our conference art series received another instalment this year, from another Kingston-based artist. Like in previous years, the conference art series brings together biomechanics and art along with a little dash of Kingston. It lets us bring these elements with us, no matter where we travel. This year we connected with Kingston-based artist Bill Penner to add to the series.
Our Very Own “Muybridge Award”
This year’s entry into the series clearly combines art and science by going back to iconic images from motion capture: Eadweard Muybridge‘s recordings of a horse at the gallop. From the artist himself describing the work:
Eadweard Muybridge has long been an inspiration, a man driven by curiosity and willingness to push technology to the limit to make new discoveries. He was both a scientist and, in his own way, an artist. Could he have envisioned where his experiments would lead, from rudimentary “moving pictures” to the sophisticated motion capture technology of companies like Has-Motion? Art and science together continue to change the world.
